Korean Wedding

I was invited to a Korean wedding. They are rather similar to western weddings minus a few fun things...
  1. There is no party after. No dancing. No drinking until 2am.
  2. There are many buildings around the city where you get married and it is like an assembly line of couples. There must be a dozen weddings each day on the weekend.
  3. You have dinner after the ceremony but no speeches, no nothing but eating from a buffet. Then go home.
  4. The food was really tasty though. A mix of Korean favorites and Chinese favorites.
  5. The bride sits in a room and all the guests come to visit her and take a picture with her, and then the next person. A little assembly line-ish again.
  6. There is no money box just two dudes who sit at a desk and take cold hard cash. No card, just cash.
  7. I had a great time though. I was the only westerner there. I was a celebrity. The photographer was taking many photos of me.

She sits in this room until all the guests take a picture with her.

The room was covered in lillies and it smelled like heaven. Lillies are really cheap here. It smelled so amazing. I have never been overwhelmed, in a good way, by the smell of flowers.

Ultimate Jump Rope

Activity from sports day.
Every student had to skip until there is only one student standing.

Sports day at school

Every school has a day or two where the kids compete with each other in different sports such as soccer, running, basketball etc. The sport below is Korean wrestling. These girls are grade nine and kicking each theres butts. I really enjoyed watching this sport.

Moon Hee and Mijan

The guy on the right is Eric. He works in the Admin office. He lived in Toronto for a few years so his English is really good. Nice guy.

Here's a big apple

Hungry?

In Seoul, you can find tons of funny things. This is a video from a noodle restaurant.

Music Festival

You can drink on the streets in Korea

When we got there, as the sun was setting, everyone was sitting and enjoying the music.

Our friends from Gwangju

The venue for the DJ festival in Seoul was wicked because it was on the Han River. The air was fresh, cool and relaxing. Perfect atmosphere for a party.

We arrived around 7pm. There was a great vibe at the festival. Everyone was having a great time. No sloppy drunk people, no angry drunk people just really cool and relaxed dancing. I though that since Asia is so small and everyone is always pushing each other on the street that I would expect to find that here but NO. Everyone was surprisingly aware of each others space. Very refreshing.
In video: Sunhee, Julian, Mykie and I

They were throwing around this gigantic blow up bottle of Jager. It was bigger than Mykie.

We danced all night, non stop. I wish every weekend was like this. I loved every minute of it.

Chingus from Australia come to visit

While at Plunketts we met some amazing Korean and Japanese friends. We were very lucky to have them visit us in Gwangju. It felt like good old times.
Left to right: Junko, Ashton, Lyn, Nadia, and Me

We sang a lot of Karaoke at the local western bar we go to called "German Bar".

Had a lot of fun joking around.

Went back to my house and the party kept going until 4 am.

My beloved painting. I am such a good artist.

I have minimal furniture so we did it Korean style on the floor. It was a very comfy picnic style party.

I am getting into the Korean style here. Ok, maybe not. Only after a lot of Soju.

Shiva Pub

While living in Australia, we met this cool girl named Sunhee. We spent a lot of time with her while at Plunketts. She is sitting next to Mykie in the photo below. She owns this cool bar in Seoul called Shiva Pub. Until this weekend, Shiva Pub was only a picture and stories in our head.

Nadia and Lyn.
Two cool girls that we met while at Plunketts as well.
I danced to a lot of Korean pop music while at Shiva Pub. We blasted it through you tube and I showed everyone my dance moves. I love Korean Pop aka KPop.

A glimpse into my Seoul

Look at the people in the back staring at us, LOL. Loving it!

Busy EH? This is a cool area where you can, eat, party at night and shop.

These are a few examples of the current street fashion.

Bars have bizarre English names and signs. This is a milkshake parlour.

This is just a bar with a weird name.

Everyone loves Hello Kitty. Why not eat with her too?

Does standing beside Einstein make us smarter?

Who wants to line up to take the subway? There is no such thing as running in the subway. I don't know how far you would get if you tried.
