Just a quick update on what is going on with us here in Bali....We have been here for one week and it feels awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FIrst off, we are having a great time. The Balinese people are so warm and beautiful. I don't know if they are being geniune with their kindness or it is just a show but to be honest we don't really care. THey are really attractive people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kuta is a PARTY town. Party all night long. It reminds me of spring break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! drunk young people everywhere. Yesterday we were in a bar and three young girls from OZ came in who could be no older than 16. THis place is nuts!
As for our hotel, we love it. Everyone knows us there and is really friendly. We get a spa treatment everyday total pampering!!!!!! Mykie loves it too. Massage, manicure and pedicure, facials... reflexology... tooo good! We spend our days by the pool, sometimes we rent a cabana poolside and order cabana room service. We had a romantic dinner poolside at a nice cabana. That was really special.
When we first arrived, Mykie got bit a lot, but i was ok until yesterday. I got bit all over, don't really know when though. They don't itch they just look bad. THe weather here is close to perfect. And when I say perfect I really mean it. We have not experienced the sweltering heat here. maybe it will come a little later but since we will be surfing all day it doesn't really matter.
Tomorrow we are moving out of the luxury hotel and into a hostel/hotel (they are all the same here unless they are massive hotels like the hilton etc) for $10 a night for the both of us. It cannot get better than that. So cheap. Food is really cheap here as well, dinner for under $6 with a beer for the both of us. SOunds good.
When we move into our new hostel we will surf all day and play all night. I think Mykie and I willl stay In kuta for a total of one month and surf all day long. There is a huge surfing culture here. Surfers everywhere. This is more for my grandpa....we are buying special clothes that protect us from the sun for surfing. UV protection shirts. For protection and for warmth. Being in the water for a long time will make anyone cold. The waves are big here. real waves but the surf here is safe and there are lifeguards on duty.
You can shop until you drop here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shopping is so cheap and everything is for sale!!!!!!!!!! So many brand name stores here, especailly POLO. It is everywhere. There are a lot of knock offs too. Anything you want and some of them look pretty real.
When we flew in, there was a huge sign at customs saying that if you smuggle drugs into the country the penalty is death!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are really serios about it. But, on the beach and especailly after dinner, everyone wants to sell you drugs. They do it discretly but still do it A lot! FOr a country with such heavy drug laws, it doesn't seem to apply so much to the locals, LOL.
COnsidering that this place is so touristy, it appears really safe. There is security everywhere. Lots of stray dogs and cats though, which as you all know, it breaks my heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bali is definitly a place where you can easily get lost in and stay forever. unfortunately, you cannot get a visa for more than 30 days, 60 if you apply in your home country. This caused a problem for us in the airport and with customs. We have to leave indonesia within that time frame. We plan on going to singapore then to malaysia and back again to bali. we fly out of Bali.
We made some mistakes with getting the visa stuff, but we live and learn. it all works out in the end.
We have a lot planned and as we do I shall keep you posted.
As for now, we don't have a phone or any way of contacting us excepy via email. This is a safe place so don't worry. WE love you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
